Vittorio Sgarbi's review…a game with painting, bodies and mirrors, in other words an elaboration which has a creator. It is not simply taking a picture of a woman who with her nudity shows nothing more than a simple nude, it’s also a game involving important and beautiful paintings such as those of Giorgione, Tiziano, Cagnacci, Velázquez, Courbet, Manet, Picasso, Dalí, Bacon, Warhol. Paintings with a complicated structure, which Gianfranco Angelico Benvenuto reconstructs through different devices, which are thus creative works, giving to the protagonist a dignity of a pictorial ideal. This work has provoked creativity, has given the “housewife” (the common woman, in the most noble sense of the term) an importance no other work in Italy as ever done. There is no other city where an idea like this one has come to birth: to give her a destiny beyond home. A fortunate and creative experiment, that of Benvenuto, with a taste for doing something in a serious way, with an artistic idea, with a desire to produce something done well because works of art must be ruled by the basic principle that they have to be done by the rule book, they have to be inspired by an idea, and here there is an idea. An inspiration coming from great painting and interpreted through “housewives” and photography, in an effective and successful synthesis. The idea is a subtle, sophisticated idea. It doesn’t matter that it happened here, in Udine, instead of New York or Milan, any place in this world becomes the centre of the world if the idea is great. Vittorio Sgarbi |
